Black Boy Inn
Oxfordshire » Banbury

Built during the sixteenth century, The Black Boy Inn is a gem of a country pub nestling on the edge of the village of Milton, next to the local church.

Following an extensive refurbishment, it boasts a stunning interior with traditionally crafted furniture, a real woodstove and a magnificent wall-hanging rug which extends from the long bar into the conservatory-style dining room.

The day-to-day cooking is in the capable hands of Head Chef Kevin Hodgkiss and his team. Locally sourced produce is used to telling effect for a range of modern dishes embracing gastro-pub classics and more innovative modern ideas: pork and redcurrant sausages from the Meat Joint butcher or liver and bacon with mash and shallot sauce share the billing with a salad of pan-roasted scallops and buttered Wexford Farm asparagus or grilled fillet of sea bream with sun-blushed tomatoes, crushed potatoes and basil cream sauce.

There are also plenty of seasonal touches when it comes to desserts like vanilla pannacotta with poached rhubarb passion fruit tart with raspberry sauce.

The Black Boy is still emphatically a local watering hole, with regularly rotated real ales and a fine selection of wines by the glass.
