The Waggon and Horses
Deep in Robin Hood Country on the outskirts of Southwell you can find the picturesque village of Halam and the Waggon and Horses public house. This old coaching inn is everything you would look for in a traditional pub with its low beamed ceilings, chunky furniture and a warm welcome.
Roy and Laura Wood have run the Waggon for two years and in this time have gained entry to all the major guides, and have also won Publican Awards and Enjoy England Excellence Awards.
The Waggon and Horses keeps excellent real ales and an interesting ever evolving wine list. When it comes to the food the Waggon has earned its reputation as one of the best in the country for quality and consistency, the menu is written on blackboards which allows us to move the menu with the seasons.
The cooking is simple and with confidence letting the products speak for themselves; Halibut, turbot and wolffish are regulars and Roy's own creation The Nottinghamshire Pie has become an instant classic since its launch on 2nd October 2008.
